The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday suspended the sentences of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq stated that the appeal against the conviction would be heard after the Eid holidays.
In January, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra to 14 years in jail with rigorous punishment in the Toshakhana case.
The judge additionally disqualified the former prime minister for ten years and fined the couple Rs 1.57 billion (Rs 787 million each).
Khan informed the court that his wife had nothing to do with the case and was being disgraced by being coerced into it.
During the hearing, IHC Chief Justice Farooq stated that the cipher case will be concluded in a few days. "Also, we cannot set the Toshakhana case for hearing the very next day after conducting a hearing on it today."
He stated that the cypher case was scheduled to be heard the next day.
The judge stated that the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) arguments had to start in the cipher case, and he had no clue how long it would take. As a result, the Toshakhana case has been postponed until after Eid.
On February 1, Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years in jail each for their illicit marriage. On January 30, a court sentenced Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi to ten years in jail for the cipher case. All of these back-to-back rulings were delivered against Khan only days before the February 8 general election.
