Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Malik Ilyas Awan has submitted a letter to the deputy commissioner of Khushab requesting him to take away security from the Ahmadi residents of the region, while also calling for their eviction from Khushab.

In the letter dated July 30 (Saturday), Awan said that offering security to Ahmadis is akin to 'playing with the Constitution' and demanded that the city of Jauharabad withdraw its protection from the minority group.

In the letter he also said that the Constitution does not allow Ahmadis the right to worship openly in any place other than Chenab Nagar, which is the only Ahmadi majority city in the country.

He argued that during the regime of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, they were given a place in Chenab Nagar, according to a contract for a period of time, within which they can worship.

The petition by the PML-Q leader said that Pakistan is an Islamic state created in the name of Allah and the prophet (PBUH), and security officials are sanctioned for the security of Muslims. He asked what the security officials will think when they are asked to protect someone of the Ahmadi faith, claiming that it would make them question their loyalty to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

In the letter he also claimed that children would be getting adversely affected.
