Jan Mohammad, the gardener of Noor Mukadam’s murderer Zahir Jaffer, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for abetting the crime, has filed an appeal against his sentence.

In his appeal, the Jaffer family gardener sought an annulment of the trial court's sentence, arguing that he was not accused in the first information report (FIR) but in the supplementary statement.  He further argued that there was insufficient evidence to prove the charges against him.

Jan Mohammad maintained that he was an employee of the Prime Minister's Secretariat and only worked for the Jaffer family part-time.

Both Jan Mohammad and another employee of the Jaffer household, Ifthikar, were both sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined on multiple charges of abetting (Section 109), confining a kidnapped person (Section 368), concealing a plan to commit an offence punishable with death (Section 118), and omitting information from a public servant (Section 176).

Primary accused Zahir Jaffer was sentenced to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam on February 24.  The convict’s parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, who were accused of abetting the crime were however acquitted in the case, as were employees of Therapy Works, who were also among the accused.

Noor Mukadam's parents have implored the courts to carry out Zahir Jaffer's execution as soon as possible, with Noor's father Shaukat Muqqadam noting the public's concern that the accused have not been duly punished.

“Most people of Pakistan wanted other accused to be punished as well,” Shaukat Muqqadam had said.
