The federal government has authorized an increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for personal and commercial users for the month of October 2023 of Rs20.86 per kilogram.
Today (October 1, 2023), the new price system went into effect.
Notably, the government has increased LPG prices dramatically for the third month in a row.
The depreciation of the Pakistani rupee relative to the US dollar and Saudi Aramco's increase in the pricing of propane and butane, the main ingredients of LPG, were the two main causes cited by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for this steady increase.
According to Ogra's statement, the cost of LPG per kilogram would increase to Rs261 in October from Rs240 in September 2023.
The change occurred on the same day that the caretaker government lowered the cost of fuel and diesel for the ensuing two weeks for the first time in 2.5 months.
The cost of petrol was dropped by Rs 8 per liter, and the cost of diesel was reduced by Rs 11.
Petrol and diesel will now be sold at Rs323.38 and Rs318.18, respectively, per liter.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance stated that the decision to lower the price of petroleum products was made as a result of the strengthening of the Pakistani rupee and falling POL costs throughout the world.
According to the ministry, "the Government of Pakistan has decided to revise the consumer prices of petroleum products in light of variations in international prices of petroleum products and the improvement in the exchange rate."
Additionally, the price of light diesel oil has decreased by Rs7.77 per liter to 212.45 and that of kerosene by Rs7.53 per liter to 237.28.
The last time the prices of goods were reduced was in the middle of July when the price of petrol and diesel each fell by Rs. 9 per liter to Rs. 253 and Rs. 7, respectively.
