Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi's plea for bail in the cipher case was denied by a special court on Friday.

After the verdict was reserved, Official Secrets Act Court Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain announced the judgment.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi was not present for the hearing, which was a major factor in the court's decision to reject his bail plea.

Additionally, the court rejected both of the pleas filed by the lawyer for the PTI leader.

Advocate Ali Bukhari had filed applications on behalf of Qureshi seeking exemption from attending court proceedings and requesting the summoning of Shah Mehmood Qureshi for the case.

On August 19, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detained Qureshi from his residence in Islamabad and charged him with violating the Official Secrets Act of 1923 in connection with a diplomatic cipher.

According to the FIR, the complaint was filed on August 15 against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Qureshi for the alleged loss of a diplomatic cable from the US under Sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923, read with Section 34 of the PPC.
