The process of choosing the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly has concluded, as the NA secretariat issued notification of the opposition leader in the Lower House of Parliament.
Earlier, the opposition leader's nominated candidate, Omar Ayub, called on the National Assembly speaker, and Ayaz Sadiq informed him that a notification would be issued.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has now sent a notification to the opposition leader.
The appointment of the Leader of the Opposition and the Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly was postponed owing to internal differences within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to sources, instead of Umar Ayub, who had been chosen by the PTI's founder, former speaker Asad Qaiser himself applied for the critical position. Former Speaker Asad Qaiser recently met with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and requested that the opposition leader's notification be withheld for the time being.
