Geo, Jang Group President Imran Aslam Passes Away At 70

Veteran journalist and president of the Geo and Jang Group Imran Aslam has passed away in Karachi on Friday at the age of 70, his family has confirmed.

Aslam had been unwell for a while and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Karachi. His funeral will take place on Saturday near his residence and the burial will take place at a graveyard in DHA, Phase 8 according to his son.

Aslam was a veteran journalist and playwright, and wrote over 60 dramas that were aired on television. As the president of the Geo and Jang group, he started Geo News, Geo Sports and Geo Entertainment. Additionally, he was also the chief news editor and senior editor of The News.

Following the news of his death, condolences from politicians and journalists began pouring in. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he was saddened to learn of Aslam's passing, adding, "He belonged to a breed of journalists who made eminent contribution to the development of Pakistani journalism."

Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said that Pakistan's cultural space lost a big creator, adding,"Tippu as he was known, was a polymath,as well as a dear friend from decades of journalism together."

Journalist and author Nadeem Farooq Paracha said that Aslam was a great friend, mentor and inspiration for him. "Good bye, guru. May your soul rest in peace," he wrote.
