The London School of Economics’ LSESU Pakistan Development Society will host their flagship LSE Future of Pakistan conference on the 3rd of February in London.
The focus of this year's conference is policy making and political reconciliation. The conference will host three panels, focusing on the character of Pakistan’s democracy, the significance of policymaking in spurring economic growth and on the role of the Supreme Court in Pakistan’s constitutional order.
The first panel will be moderated by Dr. Farzana Shaikh, Associate Fellow at Chatham House, and is titled “Dilemma of Pakistan’s Democracy: Accountability or Reconciliation?” Guests include Mr. Zubair Umar, former Governor of Sindh, and Mr. Raza Rumi, Editor Naya Daur Media and The Friday Times, and a member of the faculty at Cornell University and the City University of New York.

The second panel at the conference will focus on “Pakistan’s Economic Growth Agenda: The Way Forward,” and will be moderated by Ahmed Nauraiz Rana, an economist at the World Bank Group. The panelists include Hamza Jawaid, founder at Bazaar Technologies and Dr Adeel Malik, an Associate Professor of International Development at the University of Oxford.
The third panel is titled “Unpacking Pakistan’s Constitutional Crises: The Role of the Supreme Court,” and will see Supreme Court's Justice Athar Minallah in conversation with Mustafa Yar Hiraj, a law student at the LSE.
The LSE Future of Pakistan is the largest student run forum on Pakistan in the world, and the 2024 conference is the seventh iteration of the event. The conference has previously hosted former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Justices Qazi Faez Isa, Mansoor Ali Shah and Ayesha Malik. Ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Miftah Ismail and former State Bank Governor Reza Baqir have also been panelists.
