Those who have Sinned

It appears the great accountability saga is to remain selective, essentially restricted to those who have Sinned. We hear Hubby’s one-time great legal eagle BA, a proud son of the Potohar has been decreed to be untouchable. This despite his sins of commission and omission in the power sector. Our mole says as a proud Potohari, BA has connections in all the right khaki places.

And as far as the giants of Punjabi integrity are concerned, we hear The Man of Steel has announced that he’s not prepared to sacrifice the two party stalwarts who are in the khakis’ line of fire. So, you’re going to be held accountable if you’re amongst the Sinned against political class and that’s about it.

Planned outburst

What seemed like a spontaneous outburst from the Upper House’s chief, regarding the need for across the board accountability, was a well-thought out move, we hear. The chief was speaking at a memorial meeting in Karachi of a renowned politician. Our mole says resentment has been brewing in the Upper House for months regarding the selective hounding of some politicos, and hands-off everyone else, in khaki and in mufti. The issue was discussed and it was decided that the chief should make a point at the next available opportunity. Rumour has it that the Upper House may move a resolution on the issue of fair play in accountability during its coming session.

Inexorable conclusion

While all appears to be quiet on the country’s most famous domestic front, it’s actually not so. Matters are drawing to their inexorable conclusion. Another nail has been driven by the revelation that the missus accepted funding from a controversial party stalwart who’s now in a by-elections face-off in Lahore. This was for a film she’s said to be making, and it was without her husband’s knowledge. When he objected, the missus said, “how is it that the giver of the bribe is kosher but the taker’s not?” Touche.
