A court in Islamabad had handed down death sentence to the murderer of 10-year-old girl Farishta, who was raped and killed in Islamabad in 2019.
The perpetrator, Nisar was produced before the court on Monday, where the family members of the slain Farishta were also present.
Farishta belonged to the Mohmand Agency, but her family had settled in Islamabad. According to her parents, she had gone missing on May 15, and the family reached out to the local police.
However, the police did not register the FIR till May 19, and suggested that the girl might just have eloped with someone.
The girl's body was later discovered by locals in a forest who then went to the police. The post-mortem of the body was conducted at Poly Clinic.
According to the postmortem report, there had been an attempt to rape the girl, and upon resistance, she was knifed down by her assailants. It was revealed that she died due to excessive blood loss.
