He made the remarks while briefing the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights. Pirzada said it was unfortunate how the nation overlooked national heroes.
Talking about missing persons, he said the army chief had said that while the past cannot be undone enforced disappearances will cease. The minister said there was precious little the government could do when the criminal had a habit of going underground to mount cover-ups.
On being queried if his ministry had strived to overcome rights challenges confronting the nation, he said the ministry was not in a position to hold anybody accountable. We look towards other ministries and police do so, Pirzada said. However, he said, the ministry had been regulating conduct of law enforcement agencies.
