Deputy Speaker Ruling: After Promising 'Reasonable Order' Today, SC Adjourns Hearing Till Tomorrow

Supreme Court has adjourned till tomorrow the hearing of the suo motu case about the constitutional crisis in the country following deputy speaker's ruling rejecting the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Arif Alvi. At the outset of the proceeding earlier today, Chief Justice Bandial had vowed to issue a 'reasonable order' today, but the verdict has been further delayed. The hearing of the case will now take place on Tuesday at noon.

Justice Muneeb Akhtar of the Supreme Court said that the deputy speaker cannot issue such a ruling unless he is serving as the acting speaker. The bench also said that all parties concerned would be heard by the court before a verdict is announced.

Earlier, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial rejected Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Farooq Naek's request to form a full court bench.

Meanwhile, court reporter Asad Ali Toor told Friday Times that the apex court appears to be unnecessarily delaying the proceedings of an open-and-shut case.

Opposition parties had also hoped that the Supreme Court will announce a decision and put an end to the wave of uncertainty in the country that arose after the deputy speaker's ruling and President Alvi's subsequent decision to dissolve the National Assembly.
