The Punjab police and National Commission for the Rights of the Child (NCRC) announced on Thursday that the suspect who reportedly raped a minor boy while observing Itikaf in Muzaffargarh has been apprehended.
According to a Facebook post by the NCRC, the suspect was apprehended by local police. "Taking cognizance of the case, the NCRC followed up with the district police office in Muzaffargarh, and it has been informed that the culprit has been arrested."
The NCRC promised to "ensure that justice triumphs and the offender is held accountable."
The 13-year-old child was observing Itikaf when an adult man also sitting for Itikaf at the same mosque allegedly raped him. The culprit managed to flee the incident, while the mosque Imam insists he was warned with repercussions for his wrongdoing.
A medical check of the survivor was subsequently performed, with local police stating that the perpetrator will be apprehended shortly.
