An over-70-year-old Christian man died on Monday from his wounds, more than a week after being lynched by a furious crowd for alleged blasphemy, officials said.

Nazir Masih, the victim of the mob lynching, died this morning after nine days of treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi, the spokesperson for Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sharik Kamal Siddiqui said.

The deceased had two surgeries but died as a result of the head injuries, according to the spokesperson.

This horrible incident occurred on May 25 in Sargodha, where an irate crowd tortured Masih for alleged blasphemy.

The situation became violent when irate people stormed the victim's home in the Mujahid Colony neighborhood, destroying his belongings and torching a shoe factory that had been erected there. They also burned tires and destroyed nearby electrical infrastructure.

Following the incident, authorities arrested at least twenty-five people and relocated the victim and his family to an unknown place after rescuing them.

Sargodha Division Commissioner Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti assured that anyone who participated in the incident would face punishment following a transparent investigation.
