Efforts are underway to have a foreign man nabbed in connection with a plot to assassinate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, party leader Murad Saeed claimed on Friday.

Who, Saeed asked, had been attempting to have the suspect released. He said the "nabbed" man had been spearheading an "outfit".

The former communications minister said a commission to probe slain journalist Arshad Sharif's killing must be constituted in line with the mother of the deceased's express wishes.

Saeed made the comments in a Peshawar presser. He claimed an Islamabad-based functionary had "approached" Sharif at his residence to deliver a "threat". Sharif had to change  his number thereafter and blocked those affiliated with a "particular" institution before. Sharif, Saeed said, fled Pakistan after.

The former minister also questioned which officials had impressed upon United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities to have the slain journalist immediately flee from there too. Who, he said, wielded such influence, Saeed asked.

PTI chairman Imran Khan was injured in a Thursday firing incident in Wazirabad. Gunshots were reported in the vicinity of the PTI chairman’s container earlier. It later emerged that he had been injured. The PTI supremo sustained a bullet in the leg. The PTI chairman has been taken to a Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore. His condition is said to be stable.
