A video circulating on social media shows former Pakistan Army chief Gen (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa and his wife sitting on steps outside a library while a person records them while hurling insults at them. The former army chief and his wife appear to be somewhere in France, and the video appears to be recent, but its origin and date of recording are unconfirmed as of the filing of this report.

The video begins with both speaking Urdu. Gen (retd) Bajwa says he is no longer army chief, and then notices the person recording him, at which he abruptly says he will call the police.

The person recording the video challenges him in Urdu to call the police, as the argument spirals out of control. Gen (retd) Bajwa's wife attempts to pacify her husband, and distracts him with something that makes him smile, as both focus on each other and try to ignore the angry heckler. Meanwhile, the person recording the video continues to verbally harass and insult him, first in Urdu, and then in fluent Pashto.

Netizens were quick to condemn the act, with many noting there were more civil ways to challenge him or express disagreement with what he's done, and that his wife had nothing to do with his actions so she should not have been subjected to the tirade. Others also believe that Gen (retd) Bajwa was 'facing the music' for the absolute power he wielded during his six years at the helm of Pakistan's powerful army, with additional servings courtesy of Imran Khan's poisonous anti-establishment narrative since April 2022.

Twitterati also pointed out that the incident had more to do with the former Pakistani army chief's Afghan policy than his 'meddling' in internal Pakistani politics, and some netizens blamed the hateful relationship between the Afghan and Pakistani diasporas for this incident. However, it remains to be verified whether the person who originally recorded this video - and insulted Gen (retd) Bajwa - is of Afghan origin, or not.
