A total of three suspects in the case of the attempted assassination of Imran Khan in Wazirabad on Thursday have been caught by the police. These include Naveed Ahmad, the shooter who was apprehended at the crime scene, as well as Waqas and Sajid Butt, who reportedly sold the pistol to Naveed.
However, no FIR has been lodged yet as the Punjab government and the PTI leadership have found themselves in a deadlock. As per Dawn News, PTI chairman Imran Khan has refused to remove the name of the senior army official — Major General Faisal aka 'Dirty Harry' — he believes to be involved in the incident from the FIR.
However, Punjab CM Parvez Elahi is reluctant to name him in the FIR, as he is 'against the logic' of including his name. The CM has reportedly held many meetings with PTI leadership in a bid to convince them to drop Maj Gen Faisal's name from the FIR.
A Punjab Cabinet meeting on Friday also discussed the same, talking about the legal ramifications of registering such a case. The participants were of the view that more delays in registering the FIR could hinder the process of securing evidence and punishing the suspects caught.
