Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati was arrested again by the police on Tuesday, just after being released from Attock Jail.
Swati was taken into custody by Taxila police as soon as he stepped out of the jail in the early hours. This comes after an anti-terrorism court granted him bail the day before in several cases linked to PTI's protests on October 4.
Swati, along with PTI founder Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was charged in connection with the party's demonstrations. The protests led to the death of an Islamabad policeman during a clash in the federal capital on October 4. The PTI leaders face multiple charges, including attempted murder, arson, and violence against police officers.
Other PTI members, such as Omar Ayub, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, PTI Islamabad President Aamir Mughal, and Malik Hafeez Ur Rehman Tipu, have also been named in the cases. Over 400 unidentified individuals are also included in the investigation.
The case was registered at the Noon Police Station in Islamabad after Constable Abdul Hameed was allegedly attacked by protesters. The policeman was reportedly kidnapped, tortured, and later died from his injuries. The FIR claims that PTI protesters beat the policemen with sticks, stones, and iron rods, even tearing their uniforms. The attack was reportedly carried out under the direction of PTI leaders, including Imran Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur.
