The Pandora Papers named several former army officials and their families. Lt Gen (r) Shafatullah Shah is said to have bought a London apartment. Former ISI DG for counter terrorism Major Gen Nusrat Naeem was also named in the papers. He reportedly has an offshore company in his name which he says his friend made and he never used.
Former NLC DG Lt Gen Afzal Muzaffar’s son was named in the papers. Other former military officials and their family members included in the Pandora Papers include two sons of former Air Chief Marshal Abbas Khattak: Ahad Khattak and Umar Khattak.
Lt Col (r) Raja Nadir Pervez, Ahsan Latif (son-in-law of Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool and Zahra Tanvir (wife of Lt Gen (r) Tanvir Tahir) have also been named in the papers.
Shafaat Shah responds to controversy
Earlier, Lt Gen (r) Shafaat Shah had responded to the news about inclusion of his name in Pandora Papers with regard to an apartment in London purchased through an offshore company, suggesting that it may be a conspiracy by Indian intelligence agency RAW ‘to malign Pakistan Army officers’.
“One of the journalists involved with investigations, [Malia] Pulitzer, has recently stayed in India for 2 years and it is a typical RAW practice to malign Pakistan Army officers with criminals,” he had written on Twitter.
He further said that he bought the said flat with the proceeds from the sale of a plot in Lahore.
In a series of tweets, Shah insisted that purchasing properties in the UK through an offshore company is allowed by the country’s law. He added that he doesn’t have any other business or source of income.
