Speaking to those present at Allama Iqbal International Airport, she said she could not wait to land in the capital of the United Kingdom and meet her father, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
Her husband Captain Safdar said while it was imperative to stand up to tyranny what a travesty it was that Maryam will get to see her father after the passage of four years. He said Maryam had not had the opportunity to see her brothers either. The siblings, he said, who were not able to come together for their mother Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral would finally be able to grieve together after four year since her passing.
In a tweet, PML-N MPA Hina Butt said the whole nation will miss Maryam. A vindicated Maryam will see her father later today, she said. She lavished praise on the PML-N leader for standing up to tyranny with valour unprecedented.
Maryam's departure for London follows in the wake of her passport being handed over by the Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier on Tuesday. The PML-N VP, who was recently acquitted in the Avenfield case, said the same in a photo-tweet. Expressing gratitude on the micro-blogging site, Maryam said she had stopped at Kashmiri Dal Chawal after obtaining her passport from the LHC. “Having Kashmiri daal chawal on my way back from the court. Passport handed over, Alhamdolillah,” the PML-N VP said in a tweet.
Maryam had earlier reached the LHC alongside former federal minister Pervaiz Rasheed and MPA Hina Butt to obtain her passport. She had surrendered the travel document in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case in 2019.
