Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Khan has disclosed that 75 percent of the suicide blasts that occurred in the province during the most recent wave of terrorism were carried out by Afghan nationals.
While giving an interview to Geo News, IGP Khan said the suicide bombers' fingerprints showed that they were Afghan natives. He continued by saying that Afghan nationals were responsible for the suicide strikes on the police lines, the Ali Masjid, Bara, Hangu, and Bajaur.
The KP police chief mentioned the rising number of extortion cases in the region and said that locals and Afghan nationals participating in extortion had been detained.
He revealed that 49 calls were traced from 76 reported incidents of extortion this year.
According to information provided by IGP Khan, they were able to track down a crook who was calling a "big businessman" from Peshawar and demanding money. He also said that the extortionists who had been calling regional contractors in southern areas had been apprehended.
The KP police chief reported that extortionists had been detained in Chitral, Mohmand, and Bajaur. The police effort has reduced the number of extortion calls in the province, he added.
The IGP said that two police officers who were arrested for having a connection to a gang were being punished like criminals. He further said that officials with the rank of superintendent have been assigned to CTD offices that have been established in the amalgamated districts.
In response to the recent wave of terrorism, the caretaker government declared earlier this week that it will be tightening the noose around illegal "foreigners" and giving them a November 1 deadline to depart the country.
Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated during a news conference that the top committee meeting on the National Action Plan (NAP) on Tuesday set November 1 as the deadline for the unlawful "aliens" to depart the country willingly.
“14 of the 24 suicide bombs that have occurred in the country this year have been carried out by Afghan nationals,” according to the ministry.
The decision was made a few days after a fatal suicide bombing in Mastung, Baluchistan, which claimed the lives of nearly 60 people. According to reports, Afghan nationals or Afghan soil were used in the majority of recent terror attacks in Pakistan.
