Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial also questioned the basis on which National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri issued the ruling rejecting the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. He said that ruling had accusations but no findings. "Can the speaker make such a decision without giving facts," the chief justice asked. Justice Bandial said that this is the matter on which the court has to make its decision.
Further, the chief justice asked Babar Awan if the speaker could give a ruling despite it not being part of the session's agenda by bypassing Article 95 of the Constitution. Addressing the PTI lawyer, the chief justice said that the deputy speaker's ruling needs to be defended with 'solid' evidence. The chief justice then also asked Awan where the minutes of the National Security Committee meeting were.
The remarks were issued during hearing of the suo motu case about deputy speaker's ruling rejecting the no-trust motion against Imran Khan and dissolution of the National Assembly by Imran Khan. The bench comprises Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
Meanwhile, the hearing has been adjourned till tomorrow, despite chief justice's statement earlier in the day that the court wanted to wrap up the case today.
