While giving an interview to ARY News, Aleem said that Imran Khan at one point considered Gen Asim Munir like he came to consider Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed. Aleem Khan also said that Imran Khan had no contacts in the military establishment except Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, who frequently met and interacted (as a Major General posted as DG-C at ISI) with Imran Khan.
Aleem said that the PTI chief thought perhaps Gen Asim also harboured ambitions of becoming the army chief one day, so he (Munir) would want to maintain a cordial relationship with him (Khan).
"When Gen Asim Munir told Imran Khan about the corruption and also said that looted money is in your house, perhaps it was too much for Imran Khan to fathom," he added.
Upon this, Imran Khan told Gen Asim that he was "crossing the red line".
But what Gen Asim said next perhaps took Imran by complete surprise. Aleem Khan said that Gen Asim made it plain to Imran Khan that he doesn’t work for the prime minister, he works for the country.
"I think it was impossible for Imran Khan to absorb that answer," he stated.
Aleem Khan said that the meeting took place on a Sunday, and then-Lt Gen Asim Munir was "replaced as DG ISI that very day" as Imran Khan complained to then-army chief Gen (retd) Bajwa.
