Blue Carbon, the UAE-based environmental solutions developer, underlined its commitment to environmental stewardship by officially signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Niger State, the largest state in Nigeria, on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023.

The formalization of this strategic partnership at COP28 marks a significant stride in the pursuit of climate change objectives, underscoring the company's commitment to advancing endeavors in both mitigation and adaptation to combat the impacts of climate change.

The MOU signing ceremony took place in Dubai, UAE, involving Mohammed Umaru Bago, Governor of Niger State, and Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Blue Carbon.

The afforestation initiative seeks to address climate change impacts while promoting sustainable development and economic growth in the area.

The MOU outlines a collaborative effort between Blue Carbon and Niger State to advance carbon sequestration efforts through the planting of 1 billion trees across 760 hectares.

Blue Carbon, having expertise in carbon credit origination with a particular focus on nature-based solutions, will guide and implement the afforestation effort.

Beyond the afforestation project, the MOU outlines arrangements for implementing a pilot project on cookstoves in Niger State. This effort tackles environmental and health issues linked to conventional cooking practices by introducing cleaner and more efficient cookstoves.

The signing of this MOU during COP28 underscores the commitment of both parties to addressing climate change at an international level and signifies a shared vision for a greener, healthier future where nature-based solutions play a central role in mitigating climate change.

This collaboration has a great potential impact on the community, the environment, and the global fight against climate change.
