TFT's Ten Women Electoral Candidates To Look Out For

Politics is a hard game in Pakistan but our female politicians have never shied away from fighting the good fight. Out of the 6,500 electoral candidates, only around 5% are women.

1. Maryam Nawaz

Heiress, dynast and political hopeful for PML N, Mian Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam is all set to contest from Lahore’s NA 119.

2. Zartaj Gul

 She was elected to the National Assembly as a PTI candidate from NA-191 (Dera Ghazi Khan-III) in the 2018 general election.

3. Meherbano Qureshi

Dynast and Independent political hopeful, Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s daughter stands for election for the second time round in NA 151  

4. Dr. Yasmin Rashid

A PTI stalwart, Dr Yasmin Rashid was Pakistan Number 2 in Table Tennis and also served as Captain of the Punjab University Basket Ball Team. She will be contesting elections from NA 130.

5. Samar Bilour

Samar was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as an ANP candidate in 2018. Following the death of her slain husband, Samar Haroon Bilour entered politics to continue the family legacy and became the first woman to win a general seat in Peshawar the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

6. Aliya Hamza Malik

In 2018, Aliya Hamza Malik was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PTI on a reserved seat for women from Punjab. Ex Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed her as Federal Parliamentary Secretary for textile. With a dice symbol she is standing for election from NA 118.

7. Savera Prakash

Hailing from the district of Buner, Dr. Sawera Prakash affiliated with the PPP, is set to create history as the first woman and first female from a minority background to contest elections for the provincial assembly. 

8. Saira Afzaal Tarar

Saira Afzal Tarar, a former federal minister and daughter of veteran politician Afzal Tarar, is the nominee of the PML-N against Aneeqa Mehdi Bhatti in NA 67

9. Aneeqa Bhatti

Aneeqa is a newcomer in the political arena as she is contesting the election for the first time in her brother Shaukat Bhatti's place. She is standing in opposition to Saira Afzal Tarar. 

10. Kanwal Shauzeb

Ms Kanwal Shauzeb contested in the senate elections held in 2018 as a PTI candidate. She was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PTI on a reserved seat for women from Punjab in 2018 Pakistani general election. She was also appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Planning, Development and Reforms.
