In a report by The Guardian, deforestation dropped by 33.6% during the first six months of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s term. This is a welcome change after the mass deforestation that had taken place during Bolsonaro reign.

Lula had pledged to rein in illegal logging and reverse the environmental devastation during Bolsonaro’s term. During a presentation, João Paulo Capobianco the environment ministry’s executive secretary confirmed that they had indeed reversed deforestation.

But are these actions enough to counter the environmental damage? As per the UN, globally climate change is out of control.

“If we persist in delaying key measures that are needed, I think we are moving into a catastrophic situation, as the last two records in temperature demonstrates,” António Guterres said.

As per unofficial analysis, world temperature records were broken on Monday and Tuesday. The average global air temperature was 17.18C (62.9F) on Tuesday, according to data collated by the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), surpassing the record 17.01C reached on Monday.

On Wednesday, Earth’s average temperature remained at an unofficial record high, 17.18°C, set the day before as per the University of Maine’s Climate Reanalyzer, which uses satellite data and computer simulations to measure the world’s condition.
