Ahmadi Man Was Killed In Hasilpur For His Faith Not Honour, Reveals HRCP Report

Two unidentified assailants shot and killed Tahir Iqbal, a 54-year-old Ahmadi man, in the Hasilpur area of Bahawalpur On March 4, 2024.
The District Police Officer described the event as a "honor killing," according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan's (HRCP) fact-finding report. the DPO claimed that Iqbal had an unlawful relationship with a woman, and as a result, her relatives killed him.
Even before the inquiry began, the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) asked that the community to refrain from bringing up religious issues in the case, according to the report.
Chak-84 is home to 10 Ahamdi households, all of whom depend on farming for their subsistence. The locals informed the fact-finding team that anti-Ahmadi sentiment had lately developed in the area as a result of a hate speech given by a religious cleric named Razaq.
They regretted that despite a complaint being made against religious cleric Razaq, Bahawalpur police did not take any action against him.
President Raza Suhail of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Bahawalpur stated that although police had promised the community that Iqbal's murder would be investigated with consideration for the issue of faith-based target killing, cleric Razaq remained unpunished.
According to the report, the accused persons detained in this case have reportedly admitted to killing Iqbal out of religious conviction.
