Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Tuesday urged to halt construction work on a judicial complex being built allegedly on a heritage site in Bagh-i-Sifa, Kallar Kahar.
Taking notice on the 'administrative side' of the Supreme Court's affairs, CJP Isa sought details about how land for the project had been acquired.
"Chief Justice of Pakistan has directed me to inquire whether the news report is factually correct?" stated a letter issued by the top court's Registrar's Office addressed to the Registrar of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The letter further inquired why the land of an ancient park was being converted for use other than as a park.
It further sought details about the status of 80 kanals of land in Kallar Kahar, which had been previously transferred to the LHC.
"Kindly also provide complete details of the project and requisite approvals, including of the Building Committee / Administrative Committee," the letter stated.
"Please request the Chief Justice (of LHC) that it may be appropriate to stop further work till the provision of the requested information."
Through the Supreme Court's Registrar's Office, CJP Isa demanded an immediate response to his letter.
