Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (February 29, 2016) when policemen and WAPDA officials arrived at a village near Kasur to investigate electricity theft, the people attacked their vehicle and tortured them. Six people were injured, two of them seriously. WAPDA workers announced a strike in the entire district.
Pakistani caught selling dog meat in Riyadh restaurant
According to Dunya (March 2, 2016) Saudi police has arrested a Pakistani man for feeding people dog meat in his restaurant in Riyadh. He was hiding a dog in his bag when he was arrested, and admitted he was taking it to his restaurant to slaughter it for meat.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy stole my script: Syed Noor
Quoted in Jang (March 2, 2016) veteran Pakistani film director Syed Noor told reporters that two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy had plagiarized his film The Price of Honor released two years ago. Famous actor Moammar Rana said she had shown a negative image of Pakistan in her documentary, and should have made a documentary on drone attacks instead.
‘Entire Punjab Assembly has violated Article 6’
Quoted in Dunya (March 4, 2016) Islamic Ideology Council chairman Maulana Shiraani told reporters the entire Punjab Assembly should be tried for the violation of Article 6 for passing the Women’s Protection Act which he said was against Islam. The party in power is called Muslim League, he said, but their behavior is un-Islamic.
Elderly woman seen throwing stones at Punjab Assembly
Express reports (March 4, 2016) a mentally disturbed woman was seen throwing stones at the Punjab Assembly building and cursing the government. She was so old that the stones fell five or six feet from her. She also threw stones at anyone who would stop her or ask her what was wrong.
Man climbs fence and enters flight at Karachi airport
According to Jang (March 4, 2016) a man was arrested after he climbed a fence into the Karachi airport and ran all the way to a foreign airline’s flight. He was able to enter the plane and was detained by the crew.
Protestors steal antiques from museum outside Punjab Assembly
During a protest outside the Punjab Assembly, a group of men entered the Summit Tower museum in the grounds outside, beat up the security guards, and ran away with priceless antiques, Dunya reports (March 5, 2016). One of the guards called the police emergency number 15, but police reached the site after two hours.
10-year-old boy acquitted in terrorism case
Reported in Express (March 6, 2016) a 10-year-old boy was acquitted in a terrorism trial at a court in Gilgit. The deputy superintendent of police who nominated the class-4 student was arrested. The judge also asked the officer to pay for the newspaper announcements for the hearings.
Man acquitted seven years ago still in prison
Nawa-e-Waqt reports (March 1, 2016) a man who had been released in a murder trial because of lack of evidence seven years ago is still in jail. He was acquitted in 2009 because of lack of evidence.
Triple murder turns out prank
Police in Lahore sprang into action (dorrain lag gaeen) when they received a phone call reporting a triple murder in a suburban village, according to Nawa-e-Waqt (March 3, 2016). But when they reached the site, it turned out to be a prank call.
