A student, Yasir, who was injured in an alleged police encounter in which his companion Arsalan was killed, has rebutted the statement made by the police that the two men opened fire on the cops.
Yasir has challenged the police statement that his friend, Arsalan, was killed in an encounter. Yasir narrated a different story to the one told by the police officers present on the scene of the incident. Yasir said that he and Arsalan were returning from a coaching center when they were stopped by men in plain clothes, who opened fire on them.
Yasir recalled that he was hit by the first bullet, after which both he and Arsalan fell off the bike. He added that Arsalan was struck by the third bullet, after the second one missed both of them, causing him to collapse on the road. Yasir said that he fled from the spot as the shooter reloaded his pistol. He further stated that neither he nor Arsalan was armed.
Earlier, police had claimed that Arsalan died in an encounter while Yasir fled from the spot after being injured. The police also said that they found a pistol and five bullets on Arsalan. According to the Orangi Town police, they had tried to stop the two men on a motorcycle at a picket. The police added that the suspects didn't stop and opened fire on the police, and one of them was killed in the crossfire.
DIG West Nasif Aftab, however, rejected the statement of the officials who had shot at the victims. Aftab said that the official who fired at the victims was not in a uniform. He added that the officer involved in the incident has been taken into custody.
