Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party will be contesting polls for the NA-265 constituency.
The senior leader submitted his nomination papers for the elections in pursuance of the central executive committee's decision, party's spokesperson Talimand Khan said on Wednesday.
Khan said that the decision was made in an urgently called meeting of the party in Quetta on Monday.
PkMAP members belonging to the south Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also attended the meeting on a special invitation, he added.
The participants mulled the one-point agenda on whether the party chief should take part in the polls.
Subsequently, the majority of the members in the meeting decided in favour of contesting the elections.
On the occasion, Khan added that on the occasion, the meeting condemned the bomb blast in Peshawar and expressed grave concerns at the recent wave of terrorism in the country, particularly in the Pashtun belt.
The members also expressed concerns at the rampant inflation constantly pushing million and millions into the abyss of poverty.
The meeting called for immediate and effective political and economic steps to dealing with the issue, fearing the country would otherwise descend in a total chaos and anarchy.
The participants also expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives, and the destruction caused by the earthquake in Türkiey and Syria.
They appealed the international community for immediate help in rescue and relief as the survivors are now facing another disaster in the form of harsh weather.
The members also took stock of the party's organisational affairs and expressed its satisfaction on its progress, detailed in the form of a report on the occasion.
Last month, while addressing a seminar titled ‘Pakistan’s Survival Lies in Democracy, Rule of law and Constitution’, Achakzai said that elections alone cannot steer the country out of its political and economic quagmire; it is imperative to first reach a national consensus.
He suggested holding a roundtable conference of the stakeholders to evolve consensus and decide how and who should govern the country. “Without this, we will be running around in a vicious circle.”
The PkMAP chief urged all political and democratic forces including Imran khan to come forward to forge national consensus for the future of Pakistan. “I am ready to play a role necessary for this purpose.”
