Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected Hamas' proposed cease-fire parameters, claiming that "total victory" in Gaza is likely within months.
He was speaking after Hamas issued a set of demands in response to an Israeli-backed ceasefire plan.
Netanyahu stated that conversations with the group were "not going anywhere" and branded their conditions as "bizarre."
Talks continue to attempt to achieve an agreement.
"There is no other solution but a complete and final victory," Netanyahu said at a news conference on Wednesday.
"If Hamas will survive in Gaza, it's only a question of time until the next massacre."
Israel was anticipated to reject Hamas' counter-offer, but this statement is a severe condemnation, and Israeli leaders obviously consider Hamas' attempt to end the conflict on its terms as completely unacceptable.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters that Netanyahu's words "are a form of political bravado" and demonstrate his intention to continue the violence in the area.
According to an Egyptian government source, a fresh round of discussions, mediated by Egypt and Qatar, is still scheduled for Thursday in Cairo.
