Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan has alleged that army officer Major General Faisal Naseer was involved in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif.
While addressing a rally in Lahore, Khan said, "Major General Faisal Naseer tried to kill me twice. He is also involved in the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif. He also stripped my party senator, Azam Swati, naked and inflicted severe torture on him."
It is pertinent to mention here that journalist Arshad Sharif was killed in Kenya last October as he fled the country, citing threats to his life.
Khan had earlier accused Major General Faisal Naseer, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, of an assassination attempt on his life in November last year in Wazirabad, where he allegedly received three bullets in his leg.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, and Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi have condemned Imran Khan’s serious allegations against the army.
While lashing out at Khan, PM Shehbaz said Imran Khan is repeatedly disparaging and threatening the Pakistan Army and an intelligence agency in order to pursue small-scale political objectives.

"Making allegations against Major General Faisal Naseer and members of our intelligence agency without any supporting evidence is not acceptable and will not be tolerated," he added.
Former president Zardari asserted that Khan has gone too far in his attempts to disparage institutions and that this behavior will no longer be accepted.
"The attempt to discredit institutions has exposed the true face of the man, and now enough is enough; after listening to the foreign agent's speech, no patriot can even think of following him," Zardari said in a statement without mentioning the PTI chairman.
According to Zardari, the accusations leveled against the valiant and renowned Pakistan Army officers are an assault on the institution.
He said, "Someone is misleading his innocent workers with lies and deceit, and I am witnessing this person's fall." "We won't allow one person to play with our values and our country, because this is the country where we are all going to be buried," he added.
Zardari stated, "Someone is determined to destroy our ancestors, our children, and our country, which we will not allow."
Punjab caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi said, "We will not permit anyone to threaten or degrade the institutions or intelligence agencies in the province."
