The National Disaster Management Authority's (NDMA) Emergencies Operation Centre issued an early alert on Tuesday concerning a developing low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea that could become a tropical storm.
Currently situated near the Lakshadweep Valley in India, the system is expected to move northwestward and may impact coastal areas of the country in the third week of October. The NDMA's forecast suggests a potential landfall along the Pakistani coastline during this period, contingent on the system's trajectory and intensity.
There is also a possibility that this low-pressure system could develop into a tropical cyclone, posing risks to coastal regions. Citizens, especially those in vulnerable areas, are urged to remain informed about official updates and advisories as the situation progresses.
The NDMA is actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with relevant departments to provide timely updates and issue additional advisories as necessary. It’s worth noting that Karachi and other coastal areas recently experienced intermittent rains due to the influence of cyclonic storm Asna, which formed in the Arabian Sea at the end of August.
