A body of lawyers has condemned the filing of a reference against Islamabad High Court's Senior Puisne Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, terming the reference a blatant abuse of the legal process and a malicious attempt at undermining the judiciary.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Islamabad Bar Council (IBC) Vice Chairman Adil Aziz Qazi expressed his deep concerns and strongly condemned the filing of the 'frivolous' reference against Justice Kayani.
He added that filing the 'baseless' reference is an affront to the esteemed judiciary and a blatant abuse of the legal process.
"Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani serves our judiciary with utmost dedication, impartiality, and integrity. His unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and dispensing justice fairly is commendable and beyond reproach," Qazi said.
Vehemently condemning the malicious attempts at undermining the judiciary and tarnishing the reputation of judges, the IBC vice chairman said that such frivolous references not only waste valuable judicial resources but also erode public trust in the legal system.
"We stand in solidarity with his Lordship and reaffirm our unwavering support for the independence and integrity of the judiciary. Let it be known that the legal fraternity will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the sanctity of our judicial institutions."
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Kayani was amongst the six judges of the Islamabad High Court who had written to the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, to highlight the interference of security agencies. He was also among one of those to whom a threatening letter was addressed which allegedly contained toxic powder.
