The protest was organized after three local business were kidnapped and killed a few days ago, and their bodies were discovered in Hassokhel village of Mir Ali tehsil in North Waziristan tribal district. The three men were jewelers, and were abducted from their jewelry shop by unknown assailants.
Following the unfortunate event, the tribal jirga in Bannu decided to observe a complete shutdown and wheel-jam strike, and held a sit-in protest to register their outrage. The protestors demanded that the state be held answerable for why locals in the area were being targeted despite the deployment of security forces in the region. Provision of security to the people and property of Bannu was a prime responsibility of the state, the protestors said.
National Democratic Movement (NDM) general secretary Nadeem Askar also spoke at the protest, and announced full support for the protest demands on the behalf of NDM. He assured the protesters that NDM will stand by them and raise their voice at every forum to get their demands met.
