The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Friday ordered that the five FIRs registered in Balochistan against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati regarding his tweets against the military be quashed.

The order was given after the senator's son Osman Swati approached the BHC regarding the FIRs registered against his father after the court had prohibited the police from registering any new FIRs against him. The BHC then ordered that all five FIRS against Swati be quashed, and that he be released if he was not booked in any other case.

Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar heard the case today and reprimanded the police for registering the cases. "Does the Balochistan IG (inspector general of police) know about the registration of these five cases?" he asked, to which the police IG replied that he did not know.

The Justice then noted that the extension in Swati's physical remand was unnecessary, and asked on what basis was it approved. The police then agreed with Justice Kakar's observation and said that the physical remand extension was not needed any longer.

"Why do police take steps because of which they and the court have to hide their faces?" asked the Justice.

He then instructed police to quash all five FIRS registered against Azam Swati in Balochistan and ordered them to release him.
