After the game ended, Tuchel got into a physical altercation Spur's manager Antonio Conte for which he was fined 35.000 British Pounds. He was fined another 20,000 Pounds when he criticized the referee Anthony Taylor and suggested he never referee any Chelsea games in the future. On 7th September Todd Boehly, the new American owner of Chelsea, fired Tuchel after Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening fixture of the Champions League. Tuchel was replaced by Graham Potter, the former coach of Brighton FC.
Ever since then, Chelsea have been struggling. The Champions of Europe were 8th in the Premier League until their recent most match against Manchester City which resulted in a 1-0 loss and Chelsea going down the table to 10th in the League and a resounding 4-0 battering by Manchester City in the FA Cup, kicking out Chelsea from the competition. While relegation is not a worry, Chelsea cannot qualify for any European competition until they reach at least 5th and that too just for the Europa League. A large step down for the Champion's League winners.
Part of the reason why this is happening is due to the fact that Potter has used his main line-up far too many times. As a result they get injured and it is proven by the fact that most of Chelsea's strongest 11 are injured. The players he has left are not good enough to make up for the loss of so many of the top 11. Another reason is that their transfers are not good enough. They have missed neglected improving everything but their defense and the problem with that is that the transfers that they have made were part of Tuchel's plans. Now that he was gone and Potter took his place, all Potter could do was make the best of what he had and as a result, most of his best are injured and he's forced to play weaker players against stronger squads.
If Chelsea keep losing like this, not competing in European competitions will be the least of their worries as there is still plenty of time till the season ends. relegation is not likely but it's not impossible either.
