Gen Asim's visit to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates will continue until January 10, according to the media affairs wing of the military.
“The COAS will be meeting the senior leadership of both brotherly countries to discuss matters of mutual interest, military-to-military cooperation and bilateral relations, focusing on security-related subjects,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) earlier said in an official communiqué.
The visit is Gen Asim's first to the country as the army chief and comes at a critical juncture when Pakistan is faced with yet another crisis related to the balance of payments.
The foreign reserves currently stand at $5.8 billion, which is barely enough for one month of import bill.
With uncertainties still revolving around the IMF programme, Pakistan hopes to secure another financial assistance from the Gulf countries to avert a financial default.
