Former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair said on Sunday that he is leaving the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) due to various "reservations."
While speaking with the media, Zubair refused to reveal the specifics of his resignation, saying he would make a choice about his future politics after consulting with his "friends."
Zubair joins a group of key figures who have lately left the ruling party, including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail.
He has been critical of the present government, which was created following the February 8 elections, and recently stated that he was in the party "like Abbasi," implying his dissatisfaction with the leadership.
It is pertinent to mention here that when former Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha alleged that the election results were falsified, Zubair stated that the PML-N should "publicly accept defeat" and enable the country to go forward. However, Chatha later retracted his statements.
While it is uncertain if he would join a political party or not, Abbasi approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on April 8 to register a new political party.
Ismail also supports the creation of a new party comprised of those with "proven integrity and competence."
