The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given the authorities concerned a directive to provide information about Supreme Court (SC) Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi's assets.

The development comes after the National Assembly last week requested the PAC conduct a special audit of Justice Naqvi's accounts and sources of income in response to charges of corruption against him. This request came amid an ongoing dispute between parliament and the judiciary.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also accused him of being "biased" against the party. Numerous references have been made against Justice Naqvi before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for alleged wrongdoing and possessing assets that were beyond his means.

13 out of 14 members of the PAC voted in favor of calling for the specifics of the judge's holdings during a meeting that was presided over by Noor Alam Khan.

The sole senator who disagreed was Senator Mohsin Aziz, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member.

During the meeting, the committee's chairman declared that he was not prepared to ignore the accusations because they involved corruption. "I won't leave this matter alone as it relates to corruption," he added.

He stated, "I will take action against my sister, daughter, and children if they are involved in corruption." He also warned to summon the members who were not present during the meeting.

He also threatened to issue arrest warrants for the chief secretaries of every province if they skipped the upcoming committee meeting.

The chairman of the committee requested that the Pakistani Auditor General look into the various types of land that the judge owns and provide him with a report. He also directed the authorities concerned to submit the SC judge's travel records.

The committee chairman further instructed the National Database and Registration Authority to give him a list of the judge's family members.

In addition to the PML-N speaking out against the judge, in March his name was linked to recent audio leaks that allegedly included him, former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi, and other people.

A number of references have been filed against the SC judge so far for suspected "misconduct" and alleged violations of "the judicial code of conduct, the Constitution, and the law."

Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a senior judge of the apex court, had also called for a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to discuss the accusations against Justice Naqvi.
