Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and former foreign minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be indicted next week on October 17 in the diplomatic cable and cipher case for the violation of the Official Secrets Act.

The indictment date was announced on Monday by Judge Abul Hasnaat's special court, formed under the Official Secrets Act.

On Monday, proceedings were held against Qureshi in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, where he had been detained. Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi, Qureshi's lawyer Salman Safdar and the Federal Investigation Agency's investigation team, along with a copy of the charge sheet, appeared.

Qureshi's daughter and son, Zain, were also present during the hearing.

After the charge sheet was presented against Qureshi, the court set October 17 as the date to indict the former foreign minister and adjourned hearings.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan is also under trial in the same case. However, a charge sheet against him was not presented on Monday.

Qureshi and Imran are accused of retaining a secret document and using it for personal political gains.
