This photo was taken upon the institution of the Pakistan High Commission School in New Delhi (1957-59). It was founded by Mrs Ruhafza Hyder, standing right of the signboard, herself an educationist and wife of Deputy High Commissioner Sajjad Hyder.

Left of the sign, in glasses, is Begum Ziauddin, wife of our High Commissioner to India Mian Ziauddin. Flanking her are Mrs Suraiya Chaudhry (left, in tartan coat) wife of future IG East Pakistan MAK Chaudhry and Miss Suraiya Zaman (right), Mrs Hyder's neice visiting from Model Town, Lahore.

The School's purpose was - and remains - the provision of good education and particularly Urdu teaching to the children of the 3,000 strong staff in our largest and most crucial Mission abroad.

The framed photo, along with a portrait of the founder, is in the Principal's Office.

'When she returned to Delhi a decade later in 1968 as High Commissioner's wife, the School was amongst her abiding concerns, and flourished; its student body become adept members of her Dramatics Society in the Mission, performing in programmes that were praised by the likes of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Professor HR Bachchan (father of Amitabh Bachchan)'.
