LAHORE: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, former attorney general for Pakistan and former governor Punjab, Sardar Latif Khosa has been removed as president of the People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari due to Khosa's contentious statements against the coalition government, of which PPP is an integral part.

PPP’s Secretary General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari has been given the additional charge of PLF president.

A notification issued by the PPP chairman secretariat was released through Bilawal’s political secretary, Jameel Soomro.

According to political insiders, PPP leadership was unhappy with Khosa's recent interviews and his criticism of the coalition government, particularly the PMLN, on judicial matters.

Khosa has been publicly dissenting against the policies and decisions of the coalition government, subtly criticising them by presenting counterfactuals.

He previously expressed his opposition to the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led coalition government's bill in parliament limiting the chief justice's discretionary powers, citing it as "gagging the judiciary."

On another occasion, Khosa spoke about the controversy surrounding the Supreme Court’s ruling on March 1, and stated that the opinion of the members "not belonging to the bench" cannot be included in the decision.

Moreover, he accused Pakistan Muslim-League-Nawaz (PMLN) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz of attacking the judiciary during an interview.

Sources in Khosa's inner circle confirmed to TFT that he was deliberately giving statements against party policy so that leadership sacks him from the party, after whuch he could comfortably join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with Aitezaz Ahsan.

Speaking exclusively to TFT, Sardar Latif Khosa said that he had not received any such information, and that even if the leadership haf decided to remove me from the position of PLF president, "I welcome it as it is prerogative of the party leadership". “In the past I had resigned but my resignation was never accepted,” Khosa clarified.

He further said that, "I don’t think there is an difference between PMLN and the remnants of Ziaul Haq, and if the party had decided to join hands with them, what could I do?"

“I am a soldier of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and brother of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and will not leave the party but if they want me to sack from the party they could go ahead and do it as well,” Khosa said.

He recalled that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto once told him that he is a Bhutto too, and that “there is one Bhutto in me (Khosa),” he concluded.
