The PTI leader said he believed he had not digressed from party line in any way by doing so, according to reports. Gill, who is in police custody, confessed to possessing pertinent material in his mobile phone. The device, he told police, was with his driver Izharullah.
When police reached the spot where Gill's driver was staying, they were attacked by Izharullah's wife and brother-in-law. An FIR of the incident has been registered.
Earlier on Tuesday police had nabbed Gill for delivering statements against state institutions and inciting the people to rebellion. An Islamabad Policemen Spokesperson said an FIR had been registered against the PTI leader.
“This is an abduction not an arrest. Can such shameful acts take place in any democracy? Political workers treated as enemies. And all to make us accept a foreign backed government of crooks,” PTI chairman Imran Khan had tweeted following the development.
