An anti-terror court in Islamabad on Monday approved the bails of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former foreign minister and PTI Senior Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi in various cases relating to the destruction of public and private property in the federal capital.

Imran Khan had been booked in two cases at the Khanna police station and one at the Bhara Kahu police station. Two cases were registered against Qureshi at the Khanna police station.

Anti-Terror Court Judge Abul Hasnaat Zulqarnain heard bail pleas filed by the two PTI leaders. On Monday, he pronounced his judgment on the pleas.

Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry and Sardar Masroof represented the PTI leaders.

Before the decision was announced, Prosecutor Raja Naveed argued that the two PTI leaders had deliberately staged a protest demonstration. He further claimed that the two leaders incited the public to commit violence and that the court is extending the two unnecessary leniency. Hence, he urged the court to dismiss the bail pleas.

Judge Zulqarnain asked whether Imran Khan or Shah Mehmood Qureshi were present at the scene. At this, the prosecutor stated that they were not.

Subsequently, the judge announced that the bail pleas by Imran Khan in three cases and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in two cases are being approved against bail bonds of Rs30,000 each.

Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi are due to be indicted in the cipher case on Dember 12.
