Asmat Rajput allegedly committed suicide in her home in Sita Road town of Dadu district in Sindh following incessant demands from two blackmailers, Shaman Solangi and his son, Faiz Solangi.
According to her father, Khalid Jameel Rajput, Asmat had been ordered by the blackmailers to either marry the older man or pay varying amounts of money to them. Records show that Asmat had recently deposited Rs.90,000 into Shaman's bank account. Police also found evidence of coercion and money transfer's among Ms Rajput's belongings.
The blackmailers reportedly visited the Rajput home on January 8 to pressure the family to marry off Asmat to the man, stating that she had already contracted marriage with him. A fake nikahnama was also produced.
Ms. Asmat Rajput, who was in her fourth year at Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, was found dead in her home from an apparent gun shot later that night. Police and post-mortem doctors agreed the cause of death was suicide.
A suicide note addressed to her father was also found next to her body.
Naeema Solangi and Maulvi Idrees have also appeared before the court of the second civil judge of Johi at Dadu and obtained their two-day remand.
