Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Friday that the two brothers Khurram and Waqar Ahmad had conspired with the Kenyan police to kill journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

The minister made these claims during an appearance on a Geo News talk show on Friday, where he rejected the Kenyan police's claim that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of 'mistaken identity'. He maintained that the journalist died as a result of a premeditated, planned target killing.

"Both the brothers are not even providing access to their mobile phone's data," Sanaullah said, claiming that the brothers were trying to hide their involvement in the murder. He said that Waqar Ahmad had sponsored Sharif's visa, and was hosting the slain journalist in his apartment in Kenya.

Sanaullah maintained that there was a 'joint conspiracy' between the two brothers as well as five Kenyan police officers, and he claimed that there were torture marks on the body of the deceased newsman.

"We have the evidence against those who forced Sharif to leave the country. Some people called him and told him to leave while some say that Sharif left due to the situation in the country. However, Arshad Sharif did not want to leave the country," he said.

Evidence of why Sharif was staying at Waqar's house as a guest was present with the government, the minister added, saying the only reason Waqar hadn't been named in the probe was because the commission was yet to go and interrogate him.
