Mohammad Azam Khan, the interim chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), died on Saturday, barely a day after being shifted to a hospital.
Khan was admitted to Peshawar's Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) after becoming ill, according to hospital officials. He was being treated in the critical care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Khan was admitted to the hospital about 10 p.m. last night, according to the hospital administration.
"For four days, Azam Khan complained of vomiting and cholera. "He had a lot of tests and was diagnosed with a hernia," Dr. Gulzar said.
He further said that the decision was to be taken regarding his operation today; however, he passed away after suffering from a heart attack.
His funeral prayer will be offered today at 3:30 p.m. in Prang, Charsadda, and he will be laid to rest in his hometown.
Following the dissolution of the KP Assembly, the former bureaucrat took oath as interim chief minister on January 21.
The opposition proposed him to head the province, and his nomination was overwhelmingly approved by the departing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Khan was a retired bureaucrat who served as minister of interior, capital administration, and development in previous caretaker Prime Minister Nasir-ul-Mulk's interim cabinet in 2018.
He was a barrister-at-law from London's Lincoln's Inn.
Azam Khan was also a finance, planning, and development minister in the cabinet of CM Shamsul Mulk from October 2007 until April 2008.
He also held crucial positions in the federal and provincial governments. Khan was also the chief secretary from September 1990 until July 1993. He also served as chairman of the Pakistan Tobacco Board.
