Journalist Azaz Syed said on Monday that the ruling coalition was looking into naming the next chief of army staff.

Syed made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. The journalist said an announcement pertaining this may be made very soon. He said the next few weeks were crucial with the next army chief's appointment, PTI chairman Imran Khan's long march to influence this and his potential disqualification by the ECP all entering a decisive phase.

He said since Khan stood defeated when it came to "palace intrigue". He had now resorted to whipping up public sentiment therefore, Syed said.

The journalist said Khan had used agencies to further his own interests time and again. He had had agencies regularly target both, journalists and opponents. Now that the wind was blowing the other way he had been crying foul. Khan, Syed said, was yet to learn a lesson.

He said the PTI knew well that it was not in a position to nab Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. Syed said all the party wanted was to prevent the federal minister from reaching Faisalabad to ensure he could not prevail on PTI leaders to part ways with the party.

Commenting on the PTI chairman assertion that the media was free during his stint in office, journalist Murtaza Solangi presented glaring instances of the press having been vicitimised in his tenure. Solangi said  Hamid Mir was taken off air, Syed Talat Hussain and Nusrat Javed were let go off, Absar Alam was shot and Asad Ali Toor was tortured. Little wonder then, Solangi said, that Khan had been branded a liar.

Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
